Mark Williams edges past Jin Long in Round 1 of 2012 China Open – Snooker News
Former two-time World Snooker Champion, Mark Williams, grabbed an easy victory over the young Chinese, Jin Long in the first round of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena. The Welshman was no match for
the Chinese potters and easily cruised into the second round after beating him by the score line of 5-1.
Long played impressively against Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien in the wild card round match and ousted him by a close score line of  5-4 to set up Mark Williams clash in the initial round. The young Chinese had high hopes when he entered the arena against the
Welsh cueman but he was not able to play up to the mark against Williams and tumbled down by four frames.
On the other hand, Williams was on top of his form and was all set to begin his journey of Chinese snooker event. In the current season so far, he has not been able to clinch any major tournament and is looking forward to add one major title in his account.
He did not take his opening clash so easy and fought tremendously. He will next meet the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan or Marcus Campbell in the second round.
Speaking to World Snooker in his post match interview, Williams said, “I played alright, I played quite solid. I didn't miss many easy balls. Overall I played well. If I do play Ronnie next it's probably about time I beat him. I'm not playing anywhere near
my best. To be honest I'm nowhere near as good as I was five or six years ago.”
The Welsh Potting Machine added, “I'm never going to be as good as that. But I'm just fighting along, trying my best. I'm working on a couple of things to try and get me a little bit more consistent. As a player I know that I'm nowhere near what I used to
play like. I'm still here trying my guts out and giving it 100%.”
Should he meet the former three-time World Snooker Champion O’Sullivan, the clash will be one of the most tussling encounters of the tournament.
