Mark Williams hails Ronnie O’Sullivan for his impressive performance in 2012 China Open
Snooker fans came to the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena to watch the action between the two former champions, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Williams. They were expecting fireworks in the second round clash of 2012 China Open between the two legends
but all their excitement vanished when they saw the Welshman tumbling down easily at the hands of the Rocket.
Williams was unable to perform according to the expectations of his fans and lost by an easy score line of 1-5 at the hands of O’Sullivan. The former two-time World Snooker Champion began his event campaign with a superb victory over the Chinese potter Jin
Long, but somehow he failed to continue his form and crashed out of the tournament.
O’Sullivan, on the other hand, was impressive at the baize and did not give many chances to the Welshman during their contest. Williams could add only one frame on his side of the score board. However, the Welsh Potting Machine appreciated the way O’Sullivan
finished the proceedings at the arena with his scintillating snooker genius.
Speaking to World Snooker about O’Sullivan, Williams commented, “He always plays quite well against me, he gets a couple of rubs of the green at the right moment in time. He missed a few balls today but still overall played ok. The way he was chucking his
hands up at the end, I thought he'd won the competition. I thought he would've waited until I left the arena to start doing all that.”
The Essex Exocet, O’Sullivan added, “I slept well last night which is always a good thing and felt more fresh and energised today. I enjoy playing in the afternoon because you get up and you haven't got long to wait for your match, it's nice to just get
on with it, maybe that's helped with my performance.”
The Wordsley potter was suffering from the after effects of glandular fever but still he played up to the mark in the game and proved his class. He will be facing Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Williams will prepare for the
upcoming 2012 World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
