Mark Williams versus John Higgins: 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
The Welsh Potting Machine, Mark Williams, is leading the current world number one player, John Higgins, by a frame score of 11-9 before the mid-session interval break in the third session
of their best-of-thirty-three semi-final match of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship. This event is being staged at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
The 36-year-old Welshman, Williams, who has appeared in the semi-finals of the world champion after eight years, ended his second session with an impressive 9-7 lead and he is again in a
commanding position in the third session.
First chance in the opening frame fell for Williams, as his opponent played an awful safety shot. Williams looked relaxed and strolled around the table to compile a modest break of 44 before
playing safe. A few more chances were exchanged afterwards, but in the end it was the Wizard of Wishaw, Higgins, who managed in winning the frame on the colour balls to come within one frame at 9-8.
However the world number two, Williams, showed no disappointment and restored his two frame lead in the following eighteenth frame with a classy break of 70. In the next frame Higgins got
a chance first,  but he was forced to play safe, as he went out of position after rolling in 8 points. A bout of safety play was seen among the players afterwards until once again it was Higgins, who forced a chance from his opponent and with him an opportunity
to claim the frame. He mopped up a decisive break of 45 then to reduce the deficit at 10-9.
There was a similar story in the 20th frame, as this time Williams, who is the two-time Crucible winner, knocked in a break of 45 to make the scores 11-9.
John Higgins needs to bounce back into the game otherwise things are going to be very difficult for him, as the Welshman has become the favourite for the match. Both players will return to
the scene after the fifteen minutes break. Let’s see if Higgins makes a dramatic comeback.
