Mark Williams whitewashes Andrew Higginson as Michael Holt beats Graeme Dott – 2011 Shanghai Masters
The current world number one snooker player Mark Williams and Michael Holt, who is ranked at the 44th number in the world rankings, have won their first round matches in the 2011 Shanghai Masters tournament, as they defeated
Andrew Higginson and Graeme Dott by a frame score of 5-0 and 5-2 respectively.
This event is currently being held at the Shanghai Grand Stage in Shanghai, China.
The Welshman, Williams, also known as Welsh Potting Machine, did not need to play his best snooker as he was able to register a comfortable 5-0 win over his English opponent, Higginson, with just a 77 and 54 in the first and the last frames respectively.
“Andrew missed a lot of balls and made it easy for me,” said Williams. “The tables here always play differently to the ones in the UK, though they are better this year than they have ever been. I'd like to play Stephen Hendry next as it would be a good occasion
with a big crowd.”
The other player who posted a win on the same day was Michael Holt, as he stunned the former World Champion Graeme Dott by a 5-2 score-line.
The 33-year-old Hitman, Holt, stormed into a 3-0 lead with runs of 47, 54 and 83 before Dott won the next two frames with modest breaks of 56 and 58 to come within one frame at 3-2. Holt however showed no reeling effects and killed the match by winning the
next two frames. He enjoyed a carving break of 72 in the sixth frame before getting the better of a scrappy seventh.
A delighted Holt afterwards claimed he can win against anyone on his day.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I felt good in spells. I know I can beat anyone if I get some form together. I'm in the right frame of mind.”
Mark Williams will now face Robert Milkins whereas Michael Holt will be up against the Australian Neil Robertson in the next round.
