Markab to retrieve form for the Network Healthcare Conditions Stakes at Haydock
The Class 2 Network Healthcare Conditions Stakes will get staged at Haydock over six furlongs on Saturday, 12th May. The race that carries £12,450 purse will get contested by six three-year and older runners.
The only entry who has raced at Haydock is Markab, Green Desert’s nine-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Hawafiz. His final race for the 2010 season was in the Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on 4th September over six furlongs.
He won the race with Pat Cosgrave onboard and led the runner up of the race, Lady Of The Desert, by 1 ¼ lengths.
Settling third in line behind the winner was Genki while Starspangledbanner, the 11/8 favourite of the race, ended fifth on the track of thirteen.
This was his first ever try at Haydock.
The next opportunity at Haydock came through the second outing of the 2011 season but was truly dreadful as Markab ended second last on the field of twelve.
The Group 2 Betfred.Com Temple Stakes on 21st May at Haydock over five furlongs was won by Sole Power. Missing the race by ¾ of a length and thus settling as the runner up was Kingsgate Native.
Overdose, the 9/4 favourite of the race, could manage the seventh position only.
The only possible purpose that this race at Haydock could have served Markab with was experience at the race course.
The remaining three races of the previous season could not be culminated into wins, the best ever being a second score at Newbury.
Third career start at Haydock coupled up with today being the seasonal debut has added more to the reasons and chances for Markab to claim the race. Having won there through the very first race and having a bad day when exposed to the second chance still keeps the high possibility of winning intact.
The rest of the candidates might not be that experienced at racing at Haydock but are highly talented which is reflective through the recent races that quite a few have credited against their name.
Still the chances for Markab to bag the race are not overshadowed, he has achieved success there before and possesses the potential of leaving an impact again.
