Market attention shifting focus from one horse to another as the Qipco 2,000 inches closer
With Qipco 2,000 just around the corner, the punters are keeping a close eye on the runners to assess who is in the best form. Most Improved, whose popularity was increasing drastically, is losing bets, whereas Trumpet Major is the centre of attention
in the market now.
Most Improved, owned by Iraj Parvizi and currently under the training of Brian Meehan started losing market attention as it was discovered that he was “one-tenth” lame and subsequently, was scratched from the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes
(Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) at Newmarket on 19th April, 2012.
Trumpet Major’s popularity stems from his recent victory in the aforementioned race, as the Richard Hannon trained bay colt landed a massive victory in yesterday’s event, where he raced with the odds of 9 to 2.
The son of Arakan, out of Ashford Cross, was in good hands when he was mounted by Ryan Moore, and finished 5 lengths ahead of, Crius, whereas the third place was secured by Eastern Sun.
The three-year-old colt showed remarkable improvement in this race, as he finished fifth in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies) at Newmarket on 8th October, 2011.
Coupled with jockey J. Murtagh, he missed the victory by 1 ½ lengths, which was secured by Parish Hall.
Parish Hall, son of Teofilo, out of mare Halla Siamsa, has an opportunity to participate in the Investec Derby, which is scheduled to take place in June, 2012.
Trainer Jim Bolger stated to the press that: "Parish Hall will start in the 2,000 Guineas, but we have always thought of him as an Investec Derby horse - he proved that when he won the Dewhurst."
Camelot, who is under the training of A P O'Brien, is also attracting attention from the market. There is a strong chance that the son of Montjeu, out of Tarfah will compete in the Qipco 2,000 and the Investec Derby.
David Williams who is the spokesperson for Ladbrokes told the press: "We weren't enormously taken with the Craven following the defection of Most Improved in the morning. It's been another day where all the action has been off the track with more support
for Camelot in both the colts' Classics."
