I wanted to make a post card or flyer for my services at my salon. Something like a voucher or coupon to get people interested. I don't really know how to word it to get it attention. I was thinking buy one get one free haircut or 15% off a service. How should I say this on a post card and still keep it short and simple? Any advice is appreciated!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Hal, the Wal-Mart greater, told me he used to cut hair before he did time in the pen... he once told me of an advertisement he did in which he posed naked and completely shaven... the ad said "We cut your hair, anytime, anywhere"... his only problem was that the hair was itchy when it grew back... that should get attention...

  2. Advertise.  Newspaper, TV Radio.  Keep it simple and don't be stupid.  Newspaper run about $50.00  Radio spot 15 seconds depends on time of day.  TV costs more.

  3. What a stupid answer, Donkey P.  BTW, I know what that means and you're lucky I don't report you as an abusive answer.

For your marketing question, I suggest you keep it simple and clean.  Don't clutter it up with a lot of decoration.  Giving two-for-one for kids is a good idea - how about a mother-daughter haircut for a discounted price?  (Or mother-son, father-daughter if you do both types of haircut.)  Give a certificate for a free dry & style with your next cut.

Think of ways to bring in some money (the basic cut) and give them something a little extra (the dry & style).  Something that doesn't cost you in terms of materials is best.  People love getting free things, no matter what they are.  Or a discount on a cut if they get their hair permed/colored.  Things like that.

Do you work for a salon or for yourself?  I would also suggest that if you know how or know someone who can do this, get a website for yourself/the salon, even if it is just a very simple one.  Your best advertising is going to be word of mouth and in today's electronic world, having a website is a very formidable marketing tool.  You can put the special coupon on the website so they can print it out and that's one way to know if people are using the site.

The cost of having a website done can be minimal, depending on who you have do it, and you can pay as little as $3.95/mo. to have it hosted somewhere so it's accessible to the world.  Not a bad deal for marketing.  There are other things that can be done to market your website, none of which cost you anything or just a little.  Call it the cost of doing business.

If you don't know someone, I can help you.  You can e-mail me at my contact email on my profile (BayAreaRed) and I'll be happy to give you whatever help I can.

    :)

  4. For your service, discount is better than buy one/get one free.  I suggest you do some marketing with some of the senior citizens homes - yes, I know - hard to get creative styling their hair but they typically have their hair done on a regular/frequent basis and they look for deals.  You might want to pick the slowest day of your week (say Tuesday) and then market your discount for that day only?  Take your flyers and/or discount coupons to the senior citizens locations (homes, community centres, etc.) (talk to the director of the home first - some may not let you advertise.)  Be prepared to go to their place with your cutting gear (cuts only) and work a day or a 1/2 day a week there.

Message: Make the message in a large font size.... Special prices for Seniors (over 55 years of age) on Tuesdays!  15% discount on

    Good luck.

  5. Hello

Why don't you use a mascot! mascot is a good tool for marketing and the mascot could give the coupon or voucher.

Why don't you get Edward Scissorhands look alike mascot.

This is a good website where they can costumize you a mascot for a cheap price
