Marketing ideas for recruitment agency?

My sister has just started up her own business in recruitment and wants some good marketing ideas. She will be handing out brochures and has business cards and a website. Can you think of anything else? She wants to get her name out there etc as there are a lot of recruitment places in our town already you see. Thanks

The key thing for your sister is to define what makes her recruitment agency different from the others.  Does she specialise in a particular type of placement, does she offer training?  She needs a compelling reason for people to recruit from her rather than her competitors.

Networking is a great way of targeting markets.  Say she provides temporary staff for small businesses, going along to groups such as BNI, BRX, Business Link, NRG and Chamber of Commerce will put her in touch with her potential customers.  If she sends me a message I can invite her to a business networking group on-line, which has a free membership level.

Generalist brochures are often too hit and miss.  A brochure needs to talk to exactly the customer you're targeting.  You can have a number of target markets but they must be approached individually.

Press coverage is a good way of spreading the word.  Has your sister a particularly newsworthy story to tell?  An interesting placement, perhaps, or even an unusual story about how she set up her business?  If it makes interesting reading, as opposed to being a plug for her business, the press will run it.  It can have spectacular results.
