Marking for trench digging?

Hi, I would like to know what chemical or whatever is used to mark playing fields as I need a line marker to dig a trench.

Apparently you can go to a hardware store and buy a spray can for marking - if you have watched any tv shows for home improvement you will have seen what I am talking about

It's easiest to make two lengths of twine staked to the ground marking the width of the trench

just use spray paint and dig it up with the trench

Just use yellow spray paint.

Your digging it up so it won't hurt.

Most good hardware stores sell a product called line marking paint,Extensively used for that purpose of marking paving, trench,pool install and football field lines.It comes in a spray pack that works only upside down for ground marking.Colours are generally yellow, hot pink or white and will wash out with water and will not kill the lawn.

Best way is to use two stakes in the ground either end outside of the line of the trench dig with building line.  Then spray or chalk a line along where you want to dig.  That way if you dig up the spray / chalk you always have a reference point to refer back to.
