Markis Kido, Hendra Setiawan earn spot in Men’s Doubles quarter-finals – Singapore Open Update
Indonesia’s Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan secured a berth in quarter-finals of Li Ning Singapore Open after beating Thien How Hoon-Wee Kiong Tan in second round on June 21, 2012.
This pre quarter-final tussle proved tough trial of their mental and physical strength as it lasted for 44 minutes before ending with final results of 10-21, 21-14 and 21-18.
World Number eight duo displayed superior badminton skills throughout this encounter and locked a seat in round of eight where they will take on another Malaysian pair Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah.
This tussle is expected to be a nerve-racking contest as V Shem and Khim Wah are also at top of their game after beating prime Japanese duo Naoki Kawamae-Shoji Sato.
Though, the reigning Olympic Championship duo Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan could not have a desired start in second round match but they came back from this horrendous start and turned the tables in the final two sets.
In opening game of the match, Thien How and Wee Kiong showed strong character against higher ranked challengers as they finished this segment with huge lead of 11 points in concluding margin.
They laid the foundation of their dominance by reaching at 11-8 in first half and then served the notice of supremacy by prevailing in six consecutive rallies immediately after the interval.
This mountainous total of 17-8 proved final blow to Indonesian couple and they hardly put any resistance to avoid a 10-21 defeat.
However, the twosome of Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan switched on the best after going one down.
This time they did not commit any mistake and played with authoritative approach to level the match score.
In first half of the set, they established a six-point advantage with 11-5 margin and then maintained this upper hand all the way to final stage.
Later part of the game saw them adding valuable points at steady pace which ultimately resulted in winning figure of 21-14.
The Indonesians, who are also seeded four in this Super Series event, employed all the brilliance and experience to oust their opponent in decider.
They dominated in most part of the game and finished this contest with a favourable margin of 21-18.
