Markis Kido, Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth reserve a pre quarter-final seat – Yonex Denmark Open Update
Mixed Doubles partners Markis Kido and Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth registered their presence in Yonex Denmark Open after beating Tarun Kona-Ashwini Ponnappa in the opening round on October 16, 2012.
Though, this tussle concluded in just 28 minutes but still it was not an easy for the Indonesian campaigners as they had to sweat hard to read a favourable result of 21-18 and 21-15.
Markis Kido and Pia Zebadiah showed consistency in their performance and confounded their Indian challengers with a splendid show of badminton skills in Odense, Denmark.
They kick-started their campaign in perfect manner and claimed opening match point with distinction.
They carried that flow also in the next game and wrapped this showdown with a straight-set victory.
On the other hand, the scratch pair of Tarun Kona-Ashwini Ponnappa struggled to forge a fruitful chemistry and this lack of coordination ultimately paved their path to home.
In first set of the match, they looked completely out of touch and dropped many valuable points in a row.
Though, they showed some spark after 4-7 and finished first half with a respectable score position of 11-8 but their bad patch continued in later part of the game.
After mid-game break, the Indonesian shuttlers played aggressive badminton and cornered their opponents.
Markis Kido and Pia Zebadiah levelled the score 15-15 and then established a decent lead in third quarter of the set. They maintained this upper hand all the way to game point situation and placed a winning total of 21-18.
The second set started with some back-to-back grueling rallies and it was felt that Tarun-Ashwini will survive this hard fought battle but then the twosome of Markis and Pia proved all the predictions wrong.
Initially, they put a fluctuated performance and allowed their competitors to stay close on points table. Both teams remained equal until 10-10 as neither of them could enjoy a permanent lead.
However, the Indonesian players showed superior finishing skills and locked the honour with an impressive knock of 21-15.
Now their next challenge will be to surpass Sudket Prapakamol-Saralee Thoungthongkam of Thailand in pre quarter-finals of the tournament.
