Markis Kido, Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth rule Mixed Doubles event in 2012 Vietnam Open GP
Mixed Doubles experts Markis Kido and Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth played impeccable badminton and proved their worth by raising the trophy in Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP on August 26, 2012.
The Indonesian couple outshined their higher ranked competitors Aik Quan Tan and Pei Jing Lai in 37-minute showdown and became champions with a staggering knock of 23-21 and 21-8.
This final match was played at local badminton arena of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam and it kept the audience intact during two games.
Markis Kido and Pia Zebadiah, who were underdogs earlier in this Grand Prix tournament, were a bit cautious in the beginning but they did not take much time to gain confidence and served notice of their supremacy.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian couple failed to revive their lost form and disappointed their supporters with a below par performance.
The battle heated up straight away in the beginning as both teams tested each others’ skills in the very first set.
They put all in their possession to pocket the opening match point and made this segment a memorable contest.
In the first half, Aik Quan and Pei Jing made swift progress with some nonstop rallies but then they lost focus and allowed their challengers to narrow the gap.
The Indonesian pair counter-balanced the situation with a couple of consecutive points and strengthened their grip over the game just before the mid-game break.
Later part of the game was also played in the same manner as both contenders snapped at each others’ heels all the way to game point situation.
Finally, this competitive tussle ended when Markis and Pia tipped the scale in their favour with 23-21 margin on the board.
With this development, the spectators were hoping that the following game to be a nerve-racking fight but their thirst was not filled as Aik Quan and Pei Jing hardly put any resistance and knelt down tamely.
First sign of trouble came for them when Markis and Pia snatched valuable points without any interruption and established an unassailable lead.
They did not lose this rhythm throughout second set and sent their rivals packing with a winning score of 21-8.
