Markis Kido, Pia Zebadiah become Mixed Doubles champion of Thailand Open – Badminton news
Indonesia’s Mixed Doubles team Markis Kido-Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth remained invincible in the final round of SCG Thailand Open and claimed the crown on Sunday, June 9, 2013.
The other finalist was also an Indonesian duo Riky Widianto-Puspita Richi Dili and both contenders remained head-to-head for 53 minutes in local badminton arena of Bangkok. The audience remained intact until the final moments as both teams displayed great
badminton skills while piling up decisive figures of 18-21, 21-15 and 21-15.
The twosome of Markis and Pia looked bit off colour in the opening game but both shuttlers forged a fruitful chemistry in the ending two games and wrapped this showdown in a favourable manner.
On the other hand, Riky and Puspita could not capitalise their initial lead and surrendered tamely in the pressure situation. They amazed everyone with a staggering knock in the first set and raised their chances of success.
Both Mixed Doubles experts unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and established a decent lead straight away in the beginning. They maintained that upper hand all the way to final moments and won this crucial game with an impressive result of 21-18.
However, it proved their last success in this tournament as the other Indonesian team did not give them even a single chance to proceed.
In second set of the match, Markis and Pia employed an effective counterattack strategy and brought the contest to right balance. They showed their intentions by claiming many consecutive points straight away in the beginning.
They played with an authoritative approach all the way to half time and placed a convincing figure of 11. The relished full benefits of this early lead and won this crucial game with 21-15 score on the board.
Third set started with couple of gruelling rallies as both pairs tried hard to gain an early advantage. They remained toe-to-toe till the half time but then Markis-Pia struck hard and tipped the scale in their favour.
At first, they put a favourable total of 11 and then capitalised this lead in latter part of the game. This final set ended when Markis and Pia registered a concluding figure of 21-15.
