Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan penetrate into Men’s Singles final at Australian Open GP Gold
Indonesia’s experience players Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan proved their supremacy as they penetrated into Men’s Doubles final after beating their compatriots Angga Pratama and Ryan Agung Saputra at Australian Open GP Gold 2012 at Sydney, Australia, on
Saturday, April 7.
The World Number 12 Kido and Setiawan, who are the sixth seeds in Men’s Doubles draw, employed their experience and managed to overwhelm their talented team-mates in an entertaining rubber-set fight.
The ruling Olympic Champions Kido and Setiawan played a little sluggish game in the opening set and lost it. Nevertheless, they fought back in the match and won the following both sets with a wonderful margin.
On the other hand, Pratama and Saputra showed their brilliance in the opening game but could not maintain their impressive run in the following games and lost the set match.
In the opening set, the lower ranked Pratama and Saputra played aggressive badminton and managed to dictate the pace of rallies. They did not let their experience country-mates to dominate the pace and remained ahead until the break.
After the break, Kido and Setiawan tried to stop the aggressive run of their rival but failed to live up to expectations and lost the opening set with a six-point deficit of 15-21.
In the second set, Kido and Setiawan played a completely different badminton as they occupied the driving seat in the opening rallies and took an impressive lead until the end of first part.
After the break, Kido and Setiawan remained positive and did not let their team-mates to level the score at any stage.
The higher ranked Indonesians put up superb show of flawless badminton and ended the game with a striking score of 21-14.
In the deciding set, Kido and Setiawan continued playing smart badminton and did not show mercy to their opponents at any stage. They were in commanding position until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Kido and Setiawan progressed without facing any interruption and ended the set with a one-sided score of 21-11.
Kido and Setiawan emerged as winners of this 37-minute semi-final contest with a 15-21, 21-14 and 21-11 score on the board.
