Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan win Australian Open GP Gold to end their title drought
Indonesia’s experience shuttlers Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan ended their title draught by winning the Men’s Doubles crown at the 2012 Australian Open GP Gold in Sydney, on Sunday, April 8.
In the title match, the World Number 12 Kido and Setiawan tamed their higher ranked opponents Fang Chieh Min and Lee Sheng Mu of Chinese Taipei who are currently ranked at number 10 in the world.
The ruling Olympic Champions Kido and Setiawan, who were the sixth seeds in Men’s Doubles draw of the championship, showed their elite skills in the game and managed to beat the third seeded Chieh Min and Sheng Mu without facing any considerable trouble.
The Indonesians remained on track in the whole contest and ended it in straight games by spending just 30 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Chieh Min and Sheng Mu could not dominate the pace of rallies at any stage in the whole contest and lost it without making any impact on their experienced opponents.
The Indonesians did not waste any time and controlled the pace of rallies from the starting points and maintained their upper hand over the Taipei opponents until the end of first part of opening set.
After the break, the higher ranked Taipei players tried to put up strong show but failed to overpower their Indonesian rivals who did not commit any mistake.
Kido and Setiawan were fully focused in the game and proved that they have much fire in their belly to win more tournaments.
They remained successful in taking the opening set with a comfortable score of 21-16.
In the second set, Kido and Setiawan again put up superb display of flawless badminton and controlled the pace of rallies. They reached at 11-4 until the mid-game interval in the second set.
After the break, Kido and Setiawan did not slow down their speed and also spared no chance for their Taipei challengers to fight back in the game.
The Indonesian pair clinched the second set with an impressive 21-15 score on the board.
Kido and Setiawan won the Men’s Doubles title by ending the final battle with a convincing margin of 21-16 and 21-15.
