The Hoffenheim manager has confirmed that no official approach has been made by the Premier League clubs to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson in summer.
Hoffenheim boss, Markus Babbel, has revealed that Gylfi Sigurdsson will remain at the club until 2014 despite interest from the English Premier League. He was talking in the wake of reports suggesting that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iceland-c2921 international
will play no part in the Bundesliga from next season onwards.
Sigurdsson is currently plying his trade in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 once his loan deal
expires by the end of this campaign.
However, the 22-year-old wants to extend his stay in England and has already voiced his desire to the Hoffenheim boss. Babbel also confirmed that the former Reading star does not want to return but told that there is nothing official
as yet. He admitted that there are host of Premier League clubs who are interested in signing the Icelander but no deal has been finalised so far.
While talking to skysports.com, the 39-year-old tactician further added: "The fact is that Gylfi Sigurdsson will be at the club come June 18th. I am able to confirm we have been talking to each other. Of course, he told
me he would definitely want to remain in England.”
On the other hand, the boss admitted that the current Swansea star is a quality player and wished him to have in the Hoffenheim line-up from next season onwards.
"For me, Gylfi is a top-quality player, he is part of my plans. And up to now we have not received anything in his case. As long as we are not receiving anything, this is not an issue for me, and we will keep on expecting him to
be around," Babbel concluded.
Sigurdsson spent two years at Hoffenheim before agreeing a loan deal at the Liberty Stadium and made 36 league appearances, bagging nine goals in return. He earned his Iceland debut in 2010 and so far has one goal under his belt
from seven caps.
