Markus Brier confident to take home soil advantage at the Lyoness Open – Golf News
Markus Brier is looking forward to take home-soil advantage this week, when he tees off at the Lyoness Open powered by Greenfinity, slated to start from Thursday, June 6, 2013.
The tournament, which is sanctioned by the European Tour, will be played at the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, Austria.
Last year, the 44-year-old Austrian lost his European Tour card and as a category 12 player, he is only allowed to participate in limited tournaments this season.
However, he is allowed to participate in his national open, courtesy to his victories in 2002, 2004 and 2006. His victories in 2002 and 2004 came on the Challenge Tour, as it was not a European Tour sanctioned event at that time.
He now plans to recall his memories of his performance at the Fontana Golf Club, and repeat the same heroics at the Diamond Country Club, trying his best to take advantage of his experience at this week’s venue course.
“It’s important not only because I’m attached here, but also it could help me for the rest of the season,” said Brier.  “This is our home tournament and one of the biggest events of the year for me. Obviously I lost my card last
year so I’m not going to get many main Tour events – maybe only six to eight of the smaller ones.

“So I need to do well when I have the chance to play. And to do it with the support of the spectators here on home soil would be great,” added the Austrian, who has five professional victories registered to his name.
According to him, his victory in the 2006 edition was really special to him, as it allowed him to become the first Austrian to play and record a victory on the European Tour.
He also said that the inclusion of Lyoness Open in the European Tour’s roster has greatly helped in boosting the game of golf in the region.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he said that more and more Austrian players have started playing on the Challenge Tour and they are trying their best to make it to the bigger stage.
