Markus Brier ready for the Lyoness Open
The Lyoness Open is back again and this year it is going to be bigger and better. The most renowned players in the world of golf are going to gather at the prestigious Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg to fight for glory.
This is one of the most awaited events of the European Tour. The four-day event at Austria is going to tee off on the 25th of July and after four rounds of tremendous golf, it will end on the 28th of July.
This event became a part of the European tour in the year 1990 and till now has proven itself to be very successful on the tour. The last Austrian Open was played in 2011 and it was won by English professional golfer, Kenneth Ferrie.
This year the winning prize for the tournament is 1,000,000 Euros. One of the players who would be looking to bag the prize this year is Markus Brier.
Over the years, the Austrian professional golfer, Markus Brier has shown great promise. He turned professional in the year 1995 and ever since has been able to impress the crowd.
He has always managed to perform well in the presence of his home crowd at the Lyoness. This is an event in which he has triumphed three times and has managed a top-three finish two times.
There came a time when it formed part of the Challenge Tour. Brier was able to bag the event twice in this era.
The 44-year-old has appeared in every event held at this venue since 1990. This year, he will be looking again to impress everyone with his game.
In an interview he said, “Winning your first tournament on the main Tour is always very special, but to win it in my home country was a dream come true”.
"I would love to win the tournament for a fourth time – that would be very special. I wouldn't say time is running out just yet, but I haven't got too many years left to do it! But whatever happens I'm sure it will be a great week, so I'm really looking
forward to it,” he added.
