Markus Fernaldi, Rahmanto Putra march into pre quarter-finals of 2012 Vietnam Open GP
Men’s Doubles team Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra took Indonesia into pre quarter-finals of Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open GP after stamping Low Juan Shen-Yip Jiun Tan on August 22, 2012.
This first round match was played at local badminton arena of Ho Chih Minh in Vietnam and both teams made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance in this 45-minute tussle.
They tested each other’s skills in three gruelling sets before reading final margin of 21-14, 19-21 and 21-16.
The Indonesian duo, current World Number 34, served notice of its supremacy in opening and closing games whereas the opposing team could live its moment of glory only in the second set.
Now Markus Fernaldi and Rahmanto Putra are scheduled to meet Kah Ming Chooi-Yao Han Ow in the second round match.
They will surely utilise all of their confidence which they have earned through a splendid win in the opening match.
They outclassed the Malaysian couple in every department of the game and raised their country’s chances in this Grand Prix tournament.
They made their intentions clear in very first set as they bagged opening match point with a notable difference in final figures.
On the other hand, Juan Shen and Jiun Tan failed to withstand this intensive attack and surrendered after reading 14-21 score on the board.
However, they managed to stay in the contest by clinching very next set on merit. They matched their competitors’ skills throughout this crucial segment.
In the first half, they were a bit cautious in the beginning but still managed to place a fighting total until mid-game break.
The Malaysians showed elevated craft in the second half and claimed the victory with a tight yet favourable margin of 21-19.
With this development, both teams were standing equal in match score position and they put all in their possession to avoid a woeful exit.
Third set started with a swift progress of Juan Shen and Jiun Tan as they dominated in a few nonstop rallies but a strong backlash from their challengers changed the whole scenario.
The team of Markus Fernaldi and Rahmanto Putra ruled the court in the closing part of the game and seized the victory with 21-16.
