Markus Rogan claims 200m IM crown at the 2011 Speedo Grand Challenge - Swimming News
The 29-year-old Markus Rogan of Trojan-CA won the gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on the first day of the 2011 Speedo Grand Challenge, held at the William Woollett Aquatic Center.
The Austrian swimming champion, Rogan, claimed the gold medal for the event by clocking a time of 2:01.12 minutes. He was almost two seconds away from California Aquatics-PC’s Martin Liivamagi, who stepped on the podium for the silver medal, posting a time
of 2:03.67 minutes. They were followed by UN-CA’s Matt Thompson, who settled on the victory stand for the bronze medal, with a timing of 2:05.58 minutes.
Liivamagi was dominant from the start of the race, as he had the quickest start and completed his first lap in 26.77 seconds. Rogan followed him on the first turn as the second fastest swimmer, posting a time of 26.88 seconds. Thompson and Josh Prenot finished
their first laps, with timings of 27.00 and 27.16 seconds, respectively.
In the next lap, Rogan cruised his way to the finishing wall, passing Liivamagi with a wonderful effort of 29.41 seconds and completed his first-half of the race in 56.29 seconds. Liivamagi completed his second lap in 31.95 seconds and posted 58.72 seconds
on the board for the first 100 metres of the race.
Both swimmers continued their head-to-head battle in the third lap, where Liivamagi ended his lap in 35.19 seconds against Rogan’s 35.30 seconds effort. Likewise, Thompson and Prenot finished their third laps, with timings of 37.59 seconds and 36.03 seconds,
respectively.
Rogan had a 2.42 seconds lead on Liivamagi in the final lap, where he demonstrated his talented swimming skills by touching the wall first, in an astonishing time of 29.53 seconds to post 2:01.12 seconds on the board. Liivamagi completed his final lap in
29.76 seconds and was almost two seconds ahead of Thompson, who completed his lap in 28.81 seconds.
The arena enjoyed the superb effort of these swimmers trying to capture the podium finish, whereas, the winners were awarded with accolades after the completion of swimming session.
