Markus Rogan earns Men’s Guest 400m IM gold: Day one – British Gas Swimming Nationals
Markus Rogan of Austria earned gold medal of the Men’s Guest 400m Individual Medley (IM) on opening day of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Nationals at the London Aquatics Centre on Saturday, March 3.
The 29-year-old Rogan upset his challengers with his thrilling form in the 400m event. With his exceptional efforts, he outsmarted his opponents for gold medal by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 17.60 seconds.
He was trailed by Michael Meyer of South Africa, who was nearly four seconds behind and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 21.96 seconds. Alexis Santos of Portugal appeared as the third best finisher of the event as he completed his race in a time of 4 minutes and 22.41 seconds for bronze medal.
After a while, the audience witnessed a remarkable effort of Sweden’s Sarah Sjoestroem in Women’s Guest 100m butterfly , who devastated her opponents by pocketing gold medal of the event in a time of 56.79 seconds. Her title claiming effort was significantly ahead of her challengers, Otylia Jedrzejczak of Poland, who reported 59.00 seconds for silver medal of the event.
The third spot of the event was obtained by Li Tao of Singapore, who was just 0.14 seconds behind her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 59.14 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, the world record holder of 200m freestyle, Germany’s Paul Biedermann served notice of his talent in the Men’s Guest 400m freestyle. Biedermann demonstrated his gruelling efforts and seized the top finishing spot of the race by concluding his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 50.95 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Velimir Stjepanovic of Serbia, who was almost three seconds behind and ended his swim in 3 minutes and 53.24 seconds. The Serbian swimmer remained 2.16 seconds ahead of Sangjin Jang of Korea, who hit the finishing end with an effort of 3 minutes and 55.40 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all scheduled events whereas the podium finishers collected medals for their wonderful efforts after the session.
