Markus Rogan seals Men’s 400m IM title: 2011 Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet
Double Olympic medallist, Markus Rogan of Austria continued to impress the arena during the initial evening session of the 2011 Austrian Short Course Qualifying Meet, in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, on Friday, November 25.
Rogan went on to claim Men’s 400m Individual Medley title against his opponents, Dominik Dur and Jakub Maly by whacking the finishing barricade in a striking mark of 4 minutes and 08.28 seconds. More importantly, Rogan thrashed down Dinko Jukic’s previous
best meet record of 4 minutes and 10.60 seconds, set back in 2008. Dur finished second in a time of 4 minutes and 13.69 seconds, whereas, Jakub Maly settled at third place in a spot of 4 minutes and 14.59 seconds.
In the meantime, Randall Bal of United States of America claimed Men’s 50m back-stroke crown by striking the finishing barrier in a triumphant time of 24.06 seconds. The swim moved him to fourteenth place in the current standing of world swimming. Meanwhile,
Pavel Sankovich earned second place honours in the respective race by bashing the finishing fence in a time of 24.37 seconds and the third place went to Iskender Bashlakov in a mark of 24.82 seconds.
Hunor Mate took home the Men’s 100m breast-stroke title by banging the finishing blockade in a thrilling blot of 1 minute and 00.72 seconds. Loris Facci was placed at second spot in a time of 1 minute and 01.68 seconds, while Omer Aslanoglu earned bronze
medal in a mark of 1 minute and 02.32 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 100m butterfly title was taken over by Birgit Koschischek after she touched the finishing wall to end her swim in a winning time of 58.48 seconds. In addition, Triin Aljand earned silver medal in the respective splash by striking the
finishing divider in a time of 58.69 seconds, whereas, the bronze title went to Lisa Zaiser in a mark of 59.40 seconds.
Due to their riveting performances, the toppers of the meets, Markus Rogan, Randall Bal, Hunor Mate and Birgit Koschischek were awarded gold medals after the session’s completion.
