Marleen Veldhuis occupies Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 Paris Open

Marleen Veldhuis of Netherlands occupied gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on first day of the 2012 Paris Open Swimming Championships on Friday, July 6.
Veldhuis experienced strong resistance from Therese Alshammar in the first half but prevailed over her in the second half of the race.
With her invincible efforts, she enjoyed a lead of 0.30 seconds over her strongest challenger and touched the finishing end with the timing of 24.54 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Alshammar, who stayed just one stroke behind and cemented her place on the victory stand for silver medal by completing her race in a time of 24.84 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who stayed 0.22 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing blockade as third position holder by producing a time of 25.06 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Anna Santamans of France, who remained 0.14 seconds behind the third fastest finisher and posted a time of 25.20 seconds.
Santamans was chased by Yolane Kukla of Australia, who was 0.18 seconds slower and finished fifth in the event with the timing of 25.38 seconds.
Following that, Michael Jamieson of Great Britain conquered gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke final. Jamieson remained two body lengths faster from his closest challenger and appeared on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.24 seconds
for gold medal.
With his fascinating effort, he remained 2.47 seconds ahead of Slawomir Kuczko of Poland, who ensured his second best place on the medal rostrum by producing a time of 2 minutes and 13.71 seconds.
Similarly, Kuczko remained just 0.05 seconds lucky from Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania, who clinched bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 13.76 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was gained by Hugues Duboscq of France, who ended his race with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.75 seconds.
Veldhuis was extremely pleased with her effort in the 50m discipline and said that she would try to do the same at forthcoming London Olympics.
