  1. In my opinion, it is not a close choice. The Ruger 10/22 is way more fun to shoot, and is more customizable too. If you are going to shoot a lot, I don't think you are going to like loading that tubular magazine as much as shooting detachable magazines.

  2. Model 60 is a little less expensive but not a "cheap" rifle.

The Ruger has tons of accessories available.

    I have 1, Model 60 and 2, 10/22's.

Both are quality guns. If you might like to dress it up get the 10/22.

  3. Ruger 10/22, hands down. It will also retain its value far better than the Marlin.

  4. Budget wise? The Marlin 60 is cheaper. Can be had for $145.

Do you want to customize the 22LR? Then the Ruger 10/22 is the way to go. Bone stock Ruger 10/22s can be had for $190. Already customized 10/22s can be very pricey.

My personal choice would be the Ruger 10/22 rifle. The rifle is very accurate out of the box. I love the fact you can customize it over time and the fact that you can buy larger capacity magazines for it. Loads of fun shooting 30 rounds at a time.

The Marlin 60 by all means ain't a bad rifle. I like the intergraded scope base mount. Just buy rings and a scope, dial the scope in and you'll be shooting in no time.

The cons of both rifles? Well, both rifles jam from time to time. Thats given, due to the caliber size and some of us like rapid firing the rounds through these rifles. What I dont like about the Marlin 60, is that its a tube fed magazine rifle. Something I never been to high on.

  5. I would get a 10/22 as it has a detachable magazine and WAY more aftermarket parts for customization.

I would get another 10/22 before the next president gets sworn in. I'm a pessemistic b*****d in that regard. I already have one but...

    I don't own a 60 so I never could compare accuracy. Sorry.

  6. Its not what you pay for something that matters, its what you get for what you pay.* Forget about the bells and whistles.* Make mine the Model 60 basic rifle.*~

  7. IMO, it's a close enough call that it comes down to, do you prefer a tube feed or detachable magazine.

With one other important factor thrown in, which rifle "feels right" to you.

  8. I wish I had never parted with my ruger 10/22.  No other has ever compared to it.

  9. Ruger 10/22

  10. The Model 60 is suprisingly accurate.    It is not as s**y as a 10/22 though because of the tube magazine which turns some people off.  They can be particular with ammo as can a 10/22 but far less so.  I have found Federal Automatch to be accurate and reliable in both.  I own and have owned several examples of each over the years.

You should consider what you are going to do with the rifle.  The aftermarket support is non existant for the Marlin relative to the 10/22.  The removable magazine can be a better convenience issue and the ease of replacing the barrels and other parts makes the 10/22 fun to modify.

  11. I own 3 60's , all are fussy eaters and one is an outright jam-o-matic.

I have 2 10/22's and they both flawlessly digest any ammo I feed them.

    10/22 for the win.

  12. Marlin is as accurate and as good a gun as the Ruger and holds it's value just as well

The Ruger just starts out  more expensive

The main differences are that there are more after market gadgets available to enhance or s***w up the Ruger than there are for the Marlin

And the Ruger has a detachable magazine

If either of those are worth $100 more to you then get the Ruger

I have owned several examples of both rifles

I gave the Ruger to my mother and held on to the Marlin when I started trimming fat out of my collection

  13. For convenience and bare-bones shooting I would say the Model 60.  It is a "complete gun" (no stupid rotary magazine-they suck really).  Tubes are so much more reliable than rotary Ruger magazines.  Rugers can be customized to death (at a cost!)  and this is their real strength over Savage, Marlin, and Remington.  Stories about "amazing" 10/22 accuracy from a standard barrel model are the same types of wild stories about a .45ACP round flipping a man backwards!

I will take a used Winchester 94/22 (why oh why did I forsake this model when it was only $300 NEW!!!-stupid me)  over both the above models anyday.
