Marlins Special - Miami Marlins: Change for the better
The Florida Marlins had a dismal 2011 Major League Baseball regular season, finishing at the bottom of the National League East Division. The team managed to win 72 games and lose 90. For the fans the worst part was the fact that the Marlins finished the
season a full 30 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies.
The team struggled throughout the regular season as they just could not get it together to put on any sort of competitive performance. The Marlins were humiliated and some serious introspective work was needed during the offseason. The team changed their
name to Miami Marlins and moved to a different stadium. However, the most crucial move is the acquisition of some top players.
Players like Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell are the latest to sign with the Marlins for the 2012 regular season. Reyes is a phenomenal player and he is sure to put in a dazzling performance this year. The Marlins have very talented players like
Hanley Ramirez and Emilio Bonifacio that have the capability of putting in some decent hitting. Also, in addition to Buehrle, the Marlins have some quality depth in their pitching rotation with the likes of Ricky Nolasco, Carlos Zambrano and Anibal Sanchez.
The Marlins have done a very decent job of building up their roster during the offseason. As Spring Training is right around the corner, it will be interesting to see if these acquisitions can make a positive impact to a team that finished last in their
Division during the 2011 regular season. Many critics feel that the Marlins are extremely talented but seem to struggle when they have to play like a team. Although actual team-work is not the issue, the team seems to be missing some sort of spark.
Changing their venue and the club’s name might just give the team the jolt that they need to start firing on the field. From top down, the organisation fully supports their players and is attempting to build up some confidence in the team. The team is desperate
for a decent season with the possibility of making it into the playoffs. The Marlins will be hoping that the offseason moves they made will eventually pay off in the long run and the team finally gets to taste some success.
The fans are looking forward to seeing some of these new players take the field during Spring Training this year. There is definitely a genuine sense of hope within the Marlins’ franchise. The critics like the changes and now it is just a matter of getting
on the field to show the rest of the League that the Marlins are a different team this year and their poor performances are a thing of the past.
It looks like the Marlins moved and changed their name to create a clean slate and begin to focus on the future to build some winning momentum for the 2012 MLB regular season. It will be exciting to see if all the changes made by the Marlins during the offseason
actually pay off for them. For most of the fans, they just want to see their team achieve some success and of course make it to the postseason. The Marlins have made some serious changes, they will be hoping that they have a much better season this time round.
