Marlon Alta collects impressive second-round knockout win over Afakasi Pele Faumuina – Boxing news
Marlon Alta, the Philippines Games & Amusement Board (GAB) light middleweight champion, outclassed his Saturday night opponent and collected an easy second-round win over Samoan Afakasi Pele Faumuina, to grab the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental middleweight
title.
The duo headlined the Saturday night showdown which was promoted by Gabriel Elorde Junior of Elorde International Productions. The ring for the showdown was set up at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex situated in Paranaque City, Metro
Manila, Philippine.
The bout was televised live on May 12, 2012 and also witnessed Vergel Nebran take on Daryl Amoncio in a six-round non-title showdown while constituting the co-headline bout of the pay-per-view.
Alta, 22, was entering in his 14th career bout and by all means possessed a clear upper hand over his Saturday night opponent. The young Filipino proud boasted 11 wins and has received just two losses in his career.
Since his two consecutive losses, Alta was on a five-bout win streak and in his last bout defended his newly acquired Philippines Games & Amusement Board (GAB) light middleweight title for the very first time against Dondon Lapuz.
His Saturday night opponent, Afakasi, 23, was entering in his career’s 11th bout and boasted eight wins. He has nailed only one opponent by knockout as compared to Alta’s eight KO’s and seriously lacks the ability to throw a raw-powered mind-jolting jab.
He has collected just one loss in his career and since that loss has been on an eight-bout win streak. This was his first ever title bout and unfortunately the odds were seriously against him.
In almost all the vital brawling aspects, Alta possessed the upper hand and Afakasi in fact was nowhere to be found in front of the Filipino proud. Moreover, Marlon also possessed the substantial and decision making hometown advantage.
The bout kicked off and Alta started pounding his almost rookie level opponent Afakasi. The Samoan Afakasi who has fought only two or three bouts with experienced pugilists tried his level best to cope up with Alta’s pace but it seemed an impossible task
for him.
The battering was so harsh that Afakasi lost all his gas and in the first round just took the punishment. During the second round, Alta continued his onslaught the damage was so intense that even before the end of the second round Afakasi moved to his corner
and accepted the defeat.
With this authoritative win, Alta has collected his 12th career win and ninth by knockout whereas Afakasi has received his second career defeat and in a very humiliating manner. Moreover, Marlon now has two titles round his waist and this is his first ever
WBC title.
