Marlon King signs for Coventry
Marlon King has moved to Coventry City on a one year contract after spending time training with the League Championship outfit. King is returning to football after spending 18 months out of the game having been found guilty of sexual assault. He was released
from prison in July of this year and has worked under the Coventry manager Aidy Boothroyd during a spell at Watford.
King was a free agent having been sacked by Wigan Athletic. The Jamaican international was at loan with Hull when the allegations broke and has vowed to come back to football and clear his name. In the January transfer market in 2008 he moved to Wigan for
a fee of £3 million on a 3 year contract that was worth £40,000 a week. King has also spent part of his career at Barnet, Gillingham and Nottingham Forest before moving to Wigan. He has also spent time out on loan to Leeds and Hull.
If King can put his off field problems behind him he is expected to be a good signing for Coventry and could provide the goals needed to reach the play offs. He has proved to be a prolific goal scorer at Championship level and has also made an impact at
Hull prior to being found guilty of sexual assault. King’s arrival could prove to be one of the most astute signings by Boothroyd who will expect King to continue the form that made him one of the top scorers in the Championship. Currently, Coventry are placed
in mid table and Boothroyd will hope that King can help them score more goals and win more games.
Boothroyd was delighted to capture King and said, “I think we are getting a £5 million player for nothing. When I managed Marlon at Watford, he was a first class professional and I fully expect that to be the case at Coventry.”
