Marotta assures fans that Juventus is on the right path
Juventus' general manager, Giuseppe Marotta, has asked the team's fans to be patient after the transfer window saw a fundamental shakeup of the club's squad.
Long-serving duo David Trezeguet and Mauro Camoranesi left Juventus this summer, joining Hercules and VfB Stuttgart respectively.
Other departures included want-away playmaker Diego, who joined VfL Wolfsburg, and Liverpool's new signing of Christian Poulsen, while Tiago's loan deal at Atletico Madrid was extended.
In turn, Juventus boosted their midfield by signing Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool. Alongside Brazilian Felipe Melo and Mohamed Sissoko of Mali, the Italian will be expected to make up Juventus' new midfield.
Four loan signings
The club signed French defender Armand Traore from Arsenal and Leandro Rinaudo from Sampdoria. Italian striker Fabio Quagliarella also arrived from Sampdoria.
All four of the incoming players were signed on loan by Juventus, which Marotta attributes to a slump in the market.
"We have realised the guide lines,” he said. “It was a difficult transfer market for everybody. The cash in circulation revealed itself to be scarce. We have used the loan-with-an-option-to-buy formula a lot, but so did everyone a little."
Moratta also recognized that the many exits may mean the club will struggle to find the right consistency, especially early on in the season. But the general manager also added that he was confident Juventus will manage the transition well following the arrival of new president, Andrea Agnelli, in May.
“I ask the fans for a little patience, but I can assure you that the club is strong. It has a notable sense of belonging and continuity, represented by the arrival of Agnelli and there are good prospects because the team is strong.”
Juventus lost their first league game of the season against Bari, so the club will be looking for a win against Sampdoria this weekend. That encounter will be special for Marotta, who left the Genoa club for Juventus at the end of last season. “I spent eight unforgettable years in Genoa. I arrived there with a team that risked going down to Serie C and then ended up in the Champions League. Of course, I will be emotional."
