Marouane Chamakh: Signing of the Year
There were many players who made their way into the English Premier League this season, making their debuts from different clubs. Among these signings, the major players were Mario Balotelli, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Ramirez, Rafael van der Vaart and Marouane
Chamakh. All these players have been instrumental for their sides, but it is Chamakh who has proved to be the best signing of the summer, so far this season.
The best thing about Chamakh is that he came on a free transfer to Arsenal, from French League club Bordeaux. The young forward was bound to come into English Premier League in 2009, but Bordeaux was not bent upon selling their player. Therefore, the transfer
completed in May of 2010, and the Moroccan forward landed in North London.
After coming into Arsenal, Chamakh has proved to be a real match-winner for his team. In the English Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chamakh scored both the goals in the opening and closing minutes of the match, to give Gunners a great
victory. Also, the forward has been finding the net on a number of occasions for the Gunners and proving to be vital in their victories. Chamakh has scored ten goals so far this season, both in Champions League and the English Premier League. Apart from this,
the player has made a few assists as well, proving to be a good team player as well.
There is no doubt that with the advent of Chamakh, Arsenal does look like a totally different side. Previously, Arsenal was facing a lot of problems in terms of their strikers and forwards, while the presence in the box remained their major problem. Even
Thierry Henry, one of the greatest strikers in Gunners history, was not good enough in the air. Due to this problem, Arsenal had to stick to one game plan only, i.e. to play beautiful football and find goals from ground passes.
In a quest to play beautiful football and in the absence of a striker with great aerial abilities, Arsenal faced a lot of problems over the years. Especially against the teams that have a strong presence in the field, Arsenal players failed to produce the
results. Chamakh has proved to be a great addition to Arsenal’s team because of his ability to score goals from headers. The Moroccan striker is tall and has some physical presence, which makes him a threat on the set-pieces. Now, Arsene Wenger has more tactical
room to manoeuvre, and if the passing game fails in a match, Arsenal can put balls in the box and find goals in that fashion as well.
Chamakh brings everything in the squad, which was missing in Arsenal since Henry left the team. Although, Chamakh is not known for his goal-scoring skills, but the youngster is learning fast and currently he is the top scorer for the Gunners. Also, Chamakh
has a great technique and he loves the team-game, which makes him a perfect addition in Arsene Wenger’s squad. Combined with all these skills, the youngster is also tall and strong, a thing that was missing in most of the players that tried to replace Henry.
Due to his strong physical presence and great fitness level, Chamakh does not get a lot of injuries during a season. This is a great advantage to Arsenal, where most of the players, especially the forwards like Eduardo Da Silva, Van Persie and Nicholas Bendtner,
are injury prone and can miss a lot matches during their season.
Nevertheless, the addition of Chamakh in Arsenal’s squad has really boosted the Gunners’ plans of winning the English Premier League this season. Arsenal only needs their player to score at least 20 goals in the season, which is an achievable feat for the
youngster who is improving by each passing day. There is no doubt that if Gunners win any trophy this season, Chamakh would have a lot of say in the outcome.
