Marouane Chamakh glad to have chosen Arsenal
Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has said he does not regret his decision to leave Bordeaux and join Arsenal, where he has adjusted well early in the season.
The Moroccan international joined Bordeaux's youth team at 16 in 2000. Ten years later, the towering striker had scored 56 goals in 230 league appearances for the senior team. His record attracted the interest of Arsene Wenger, who signed him on a free transfer
this summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Chamakh said that Arsenal was not the only club interested in his services when his contract expired, but that the decision was easy to make once Arsenal approached his agent.
"There were other offers, but the fact I [have] loved Arsenal since I was young made my decision easy," the striker said. "Arsene Wenger also had a major influence in my decision to join Arsenal. I am extremely happy with my choice and I am surprised how
well it has started for me."
Chamakh has featured in all seven of Arsenal's league games this season, and his current tally of two goals is set to increase. He also has two goals in two appearances in the Champions League, where his physical presence made a difference against Partizan
Belgrade last week.
"I have settled very well on and off the pitch and I have been made very welcome by everyone at the club. I think I have a margin of progress to make and I think Arsene can make me a better player."
Enjoying the English game
New signings can take time to adjust to the pace and intensity of English football, but Chamakh has managed the transition smoothly since joining Arsenal.
"Yes, I feel my game is well-suited to English football and all I want to do is help Arsenal. English football is much more athletic and goes much quicker and the supporters are very impressive."
Wenger's team will face Birmingham City at the Emirates Stadium after the international break.
