Marouane Fellaini out for six weeks
Marouane Fellaini is due to miss six weeks of football after it was confirmed that the Everton midfielder's hamstring was damaged, making him unfit to play in Everton's upcoming match.
Fellaini picked up the injury during Belgium’s European Championship qualifier with Austria, and regrettably, he will now miss a crucial game against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby this Sunday, October 17.
Fellaini will also miss Premier League matches against Tottenham and Arsenal, but the 22-year-old hopes to return to action against Sunderland on November 22.
"[Fellaini's injury] is a very big blow because he is an important player for us," said Everton manager David Moyes.
The midfielder has suffered from a number of injuries recently, as the Belgian player missed the final three months of last season due to an ankle injury.
The midfielder’s injury leaves Moyes with a shortage of players at Goodison Park. Steven Pienaar, Jack Rodwell, Louis Saha and Victor Anichebe are all out with injuries, and they are all a valuable part of Everton.
Phil Jagielka could also miss the Merseyside derby as he sustained a hamstring injury like Fellaini, while training with England.
Moyes said, "Phil is not as bad as we first thought, but it may just come too quick for him. That is the way it is looking at this moment in time."
The injuries are sure to hinder the Everton manager’s preparation for a key Premier league game against the struggling Liverpool.
Both sides have had poor starts to their campaign, and Liverpool will be under severe pressure to get a win against Everton, especially since they find themselves in the relegation zone. Moyes’ side has the same amount of points as Liverpool, and is only
one place ahead of their Liverpool rivals on goal difference.
