Marquez and Arce looking forward to make history in December – Boxing News
Mexican fighters Juan Manuel Marquez and Jorge Arce are ready to make history in December against their respective Filipino opponents Manny Pacquiao and Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’. Arce believes the month can be an exciting one for Mexican boxing fans,
if they are both are able to defeat the Filipinos.
Marquez will be facing Pacquiao for the fourth, and so he hopes to make the most out of it. He has lost to the former WBO welterweight champion twice, via majority and unanimous decision. Their first fight ended up in a draw. Now, the Mexican legend wants
to end Pacquiao with a knockout in order to make sure he proves his mettle against the Filipino. Both fighters will lock horns at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on December 8.
On the other hand, Arce will face super bantamweight champion Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire a week later. Donaire has earned his reputation in the world as the second best Filipino fighter of all time, after Pacquiao.
“Can you imagine that if on December 8th, Marquez beats Manny Pacquiao with Beristain on his corner, and then on December 15, I beat Donaire with Don Nacho Beristain in my corner?” said Arce in his recent interview.
“It would be something historic. Just seeing me come to the ring with Nacho Beristain – it will have an effect on Donaire,” he added.
“This speaks volumes that it’s a good moment in time for Mexican boxing, and that’s why I can't waste this moment on the 8th, and neither can Arce on the 15th.”
Although Arce is confident that he and Marquez can make Mexican fans proud of their existence, they both are still inferior to their opponents. Marquez and Arce both are underdogs for their respective fights, and many analysts believe that they hardly stand
a chance to win.
Marquez was close to defeating Pacquiao in his next fight but he could not as he was unable to handle the Filipino’s speed and power. On the other hand, Arce was impressive in his recent performance, yet he is nowhere near to the excellence of Donaire.
