Marquez believes he has beaten Pacquiao thrice – Boxing News
Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez is in an utter state of disbelief, stating he has beaten Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao thrice. On paper, former WBO welterweight titlist Pacquiao has beaten Marquez twice, with one of their fights landing into a draw.
“I finished a meeting in Tijuana with my promoter, Fernando Beltrán, and he informed me that Pacquiao is still undecided,” said Marquez.
“What's happening right now is they want Pacquiao to face Floyd Mayweather in April of the next year. … That's why he is hesitated to make a fight with me, because he knows that if I fight him again - the big money fight can crumble. … He knows that I already
beat him three times, and that I will beat it again,” he added, considering the fact that the Pac-man has not yet decided his next opponent for a November or December fight.
Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez have faced each other thrice. Their first encounter ended up in a tie, with both fighters surprising each other with their tactics. The rematch was won by Pacquiao via unanimous decision, shocking the world and Marquez
himself. The third encounter was again won by Pacquiao but via split decision, making the Mexican believe he had won the showdown. Many fans of Marquez around the world called it a controversial decision. Even Pacquiao admitted his performance was under par
during the fight.
Currently, Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to fight on November 10. However, he has not decided on an opponent yet. Top Rank’s Bob Arum, promoter for Pacquiao, was in the Philippines last month to talk to the former champion regarding his upcoming opponent.
Unfortunately, the meeting ended with no decision, as Pacquiao was unable to decide whom to fight among Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley.
As of now, speculations suggest Pacquiao will either go for a fight against Marquez or Cotto. Despite Marquez’s belief that the Filipino is running away from him, Bob Arum is of the view that Pacquiao will most probably go for a fourth Marquez fight, as
it makes most sense.
