Marquez feared Pacquiao would knock him out – Boxing News
Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao was knocked out by Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez during their fourth fight past Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. While Marquez seemed the stronger one, he admits that Pacquiao was on the verge of knocking him out.
Juanma admitted that Pacquiao was at his best and he hurt him more than during their previous fights.
“I want to congratulate Juan Manuel. I have no excuses. It was a good fight and he deserved the victory. I think boxing fans who watched us were winners too,” said Pacquiao following the fight.
“When he dropped me in the fifth he caught me good but I never thought he was going to beat me even though I feared the knockout when he came at me in those final three rounds,” said Marquez while giving Pacquiao credit for his excellent performance.
The Filipino walked into a well established strategy of Marquez, getting knocked down by a ferocious counter right just when he threw in a huge right. Unfortunately, Pacquiao did not see the punch coming, as he puts it.
Marquez’s victory has ended the dreams of a super-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. According to analysts, Pacquiao does not stand the chance of getting a fight against Mayweather, even if he gives Mayweather the bigger share now.
On the other hand, Pacquiao believes this is what boxing is all about and that he will bounce back from his loss.
The shocking loss has changed the entire scenario of boxing. While Marquez wanted to retire, he now is looking forward to a fifth fight between the two. On the other hand, Mayweather, who usually had harsh words for Pacquiao, is now offering words of solace
to the former WBO champion.
Pacquiao, who is a Filipino icon, has saddened his followers, family and friends, and he even admits it. Pacquiao knows the loss came with a bitter price and now he needs to revive the old Manny Pacquiao if he wants to be on top again.
Pacquiao is ready for a fifth fight but who knows if Marquez will give him the chance to prove himself again or not.
