Marquez fought on with a broken nose – Boxing News
Past Saturday night was a treat for boxing fans, when they saw two top notch fighters take on each other in what could be probably best described as a war in the ring. Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao was facing his nemesis Mexican fighter Juan Manuel
Marquez for the fourth time. Pacquiao had already won two fights out of three, with the first one ending up in a tie. However, this time, it was not the Filipino’s night.
Pacquiao was in excellent shape and so was Marquez and they both clearly gave their best. It was an epic bout between the most explosive fighter of our generation and the best counter puncher. One had to fall and unfortunately it was the people’s champion
Manny Pacquiao. Although Marquez won, credit goes to Pacquiao too for putting up a fight that enthralled the arena and boxing fans all around the world.
“I am very happy. This is a result of all the hard work I did. This was one of my best victories,” said Marquez after his victory.
Marquez was on the verge of being knocked out, as he puts it. He had a broken nose and a bloody face by round four but he carried on. He had promised his fans that he would knockout the Filipino and he did so.
“I am not thinking about any fight. I just want to celebrate,” he added.
“I don't know what is coming but I am going to rest and celebrate with my family and my friends in Mexico.
“I am just thinking of the celebration rather than who I am going to fight next.”
Marquez went in believing he would destroy Pacquiao and he did so. The Filipino was left motionless following a swift right hand to the face. Marquez immediately celebrated and so did his team members. Promoter Bob Arum called it one of the best matches
of all time.
For now, Marquez stands with one win over Pacquiao while the latter has two. Marquez still needs to win two more in order to prove himself better than the former WBO champion.
