Marquez putting his legacy, honour and pride on the line – Boxing News
While for Manny Pacquiao, the fight against Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time is strictly business, it is not the same for the latter. Marquez has asserted that he is putting his entire legacy, pride, honour and everything on the line to knockout the
Filipino. For Marquez, Pacquiao definitely has been the strongest opponent, and one that he has not defeated yet.
The Mexican fighter is now 39 and he has been facing Pacquiao for the last 8 years. Yet, he has not scored a single win against him. Marquez has faced Pacquiao thrice, losing twice while ending the first fight. Despite the losses, Marquez believes he always
defeated Pacquiao and he wants to prove it this time with a knocking out the former WBO welterweight titlist.
“This fight is more important than the last three. Because it's for my legacy. The honor. The pride. For everything,” said Marquez.
Marquez, 39, has lost two fights to Pacquiao while their first showdown ended up in a tie. It is unfortunate to Marquez to stand in a position like this, as he has been one of the best welterweights today. Had Marquez defeated Pacquiao in the first fight,
he would have been the king of the welterweight division and not Pacquiao.
Marquez also answered Freddie Roach’s claims of him using steroids for the bulk. According to Marquez, if anyone doubts him he can stay with him to see how hard he works to bulk up.
“Anyone who wants to test me, I invite him to have spent the last four months with me, to have got up at 4 a.m. with me every day, do the eight hours of work, and then tell me whether I'm doing this naturally or not,” he added.
For now, Marquez is ready for the showdown. In fact, he is way too confident about the fact that he can destroy Pacquiao this time. Marquez want to end the fight with a knockout, while Pacquiao believes it is not possible as Marquez is not an upfront fighter.
Both fighters will meet in the ring on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
