Marquez suspected of steroid usage following Pacquiao knockout – Boxing News
Following his unexpected knockout victory over Manny Pacquiao, Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez finds himself amidst suspicions of using steroids. Marquez, who knocked out the Pac-man in the sixth round, looked beefed up, ripped and stronger than ever
before, which is why many are believing that he was on performance enhancing drugs.
Before and after the fight, the Nevada State Athletic Commission took urine samples of both the fighters. The results of the tests will be revealed on December 17 this year.
“I am a clean fighter,” said Marquez in an interview with the LA Times.
“I feel very happy with my training,” he added.
It should be noted here that Marquez has been working with notorious Angel Hernandez for a year now, a figure who is well known for supplying performance enhancing drugs to athletes. However, Hernandez also testifies that Marquez is a clean fighter.
“We were the first ones who said that we are not using anything illegal,” he said. “It doesn’t make me angry because they can always have the opinions they want. We don’t have to hide.”
“I think that you can say anything that you want, but you don’t have any proof, so what does that mean? It means nothing.”
For now, Marquez stands with one knockout victory over the Pac-man while Pacquiao stands with two decision wins over the Mexican. According to Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz, Pacquiao is at ease and he will not beg for a rematch to Marquez.
For now, Marquez is under suspicions, and even though he believes he has not used steroids, he never knows what shows up in his urine test. When an elite fighter like Erik Morales can be found using performance enhancing drugs then why not Marquez?
If the suspicions are proven right, Marquez’s victory over Pacquiao would be washed away. This is something the Mexican cannot afford, as it was a long wanted victory for Marquez. Knocking out the king of pound for pound boxing is not a child’s play and
Marquez pulled it off well. Taking away the credit from him on the basis of suspicions is not fair with the man who yearned to defeat Pacquiao.
