Marquez wants Pacquiao to ‘move on’ – Boxing News
After brutally knocking pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao, nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez wants the Filipino to ‘move on’. While talking to Salvador Rodriguez of The Record, Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez iterated that Pacquiao should accept his fate
and move on, instead of feeling bad about it.
The rivalry between Pacquiao and Marquez was spiced up with yet another thrilling fighter both fighters produced past Saturday on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Surprisingly, Pacquiao, who was leading the rivalry with 2 – 0, was knocked out in
the sixth round by ‘Juanma’.
“Manny doesn't have to (feel) bad. That might happen to me as it happened to other fighters he faced (before),” said Marquez, who is now one win against Pacquiao.
Although Pacquiao still leads the rivalry with two decision wins, Juanma fans debate that the latter has had a knockout victory which makes him superior. Pacquiao won two fights with unanimous and split decision, both of which were controversial.
“We must accept joys and sorrows. In this case it is difficult to accept defeat but you have to accept it and if possible, move on,” he added.
Marquez, who was at the verge of retirement when he challenged Pacquiao yet again, asserted he is unsure as to what he wants in the future, when asked about his retirement plans.
“I'm not sure. My family wants me to retire and body gets tired since we are not machines,” he said.
For now, Marquez feels satisfied, as he did what he always wanted to. The rivalry started eight years back when both fighters met at the junior welterweight level. The first fight saw Marquz being knocked out thrice in the initial rounds but he got up to
defend and was able to tie the match.
The second fight had Pacquiao clearly overpowering Marquez. Hence, the Pac-man won by unanimous decision. The third fight was the most controversial one, during which Pacquiao’s blows were smartly countered by the Mexican fight king.
Since Marquez was able to handle Pacquiao well, it was widely believed that he won but the judges saw otherwise. Pacquiao won via controversial split decision.
