Marquis Teague excited about playing for the Chicago Bulls – NBA News
Marquis Teague never worked out for the Chicago Bulls in the days leading up to the draft and was never evaluated by them in person.
So, when he was picked up by the Bulls with the 29th pick of this year’s NBA draft, the young point guard was as surprised as the rest of the NBA.
Teague played for the Kentucky Wildcats who won the NCAA championship this year. He was the teammate of this year’s number 1 draft pick Anthony Davis and was coached by John Calipari and has the necessary background to succeed
in the NBA.
"I just want to come in every day and work hard. Try to get better, help my team any way I can to win. I'm just ready to come in and work,” said Teague in an introductory news conference.
The Bulls general manager Gar Forman was excited about the fact that Teague fell to the 29th pick and the Bulls were able to pick him up. He stressed on the fact that the NBA was a big jump for Teague and the Bulls would
ensure that he does not take too much pressure.
“It's a big jump. And I think it's a big jump going from high school to college. Certainly the program he was in [at Kentucky] he met every challenge in college and we expect him to do the same here. The first step is getting into
the gym and start working and learning our system, learn his teammates, and just get ready for summer league and just go step by step,” said Teague.
Teague is the brother of Atlanta Hawks guard Jeff Teague. He believes his biggest strength is his on ball defence while admits that he needs to improve on his jump shot.
At the age of 19, the guard has landed himself in the best of situations as he will be playing along side Derrick Rose, a former MVP and one of the best point guards in the league at the moment. Teague said that he had not yet
talked to Rose but was looking forward to the opportunity of playing with him and learning from him.
Forman was happy about the fact that Teague was coming from a winning background and had experience of playing high stake games and handling pressure. Teague was part of the Wildcats team that won the NCAA championship this year.
Even Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau mentioned that Teague coming after having won the NCAA championship, would give him an edge over other players in terms of closing games and making right decisions under pressure.
