Marray and Nielsen bidding to reproduce Wimbledon performance at the World Tour Finals – Tennis News
Jonathan Marray and Fredrik Nielsen have said they would try to repeat what they did at this year’s Wimbledon Championships at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Marray and Nielsen became the fifth team to qualify for the season ending championships to be held in London’s O2 Arena from 5-12.
They booked their place in the final showdown by ensuring a top 20 finish this year. In normal conditions, top eight singles players and doubles teams make it to the season finale but if a player or a team wins Grand Slam title
in a season, it has to just finish in the best 20 in the Race to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals.
Marray and Nielsen are confident after their success at the All England Club in the summer and hope that they can raise their standard once again in London. Marray said in a recent interview, “To be able to cap off the season
by competing against the world’s best doubles teams in front of a home crowd at The O2 in November will be incredible. We had a great run at Wimbledon this summer, so hopefully we can reproduce some of that form in London this November.”
The British-Danish duo produced an unbelievable performance at the Wimbledon Championships. They stunned many of the top doubles team on the tour throughout the event. Marray and Nielsen started by upsetting Marcel Granollers and
Marc Lopez in the first round. They defeated Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer in the round of 16.
The biggest win of their careers came in the semi-finals, when they surprised the best doubles team in tennis history, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan. Marray and Nielsen went on to beat Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau in the final to
grab their maiden Grand Slam crown.
Nielsen said, “It will be amazing to get the experience of playing at The O2. It’s an unbelievable set-up, and an event I never thought I was going to be a part of as a player. So I will enjoy every second and can't wait to get
started.”
Three places are still left to be grabbed for the doubles event of the ATP World Tour Finals.
