My Fiance does not speak with his family and he has tried calling on numerous occasions to speak with his mother or father but had no response.

On the marriage license application you need to know your parents place of birth and he is SURE both were born in Ontario but I want he to be ABSOLUTELY sure.

what do they do in a case like this?

  1. My birth certificate showed the names and place & date of birth for both of my parents - - check your fiance's birth certificate, the info may be right there and you don't have to drive yourselves crazy.

  2. I would call the government office closest to you and ask.  I'm sure they would rather tell you that your information is incomplete over the phone than have you waste their time at the counter if the information turns out to be incorrect (that wastes everyone's time).

Or try contacting the office that issues birth certificates.  I know you need your BC to get the license, and I think your parents birth information is also linked to your BC information.

    I hope that helps!

  3. Well, you could try to look his parents up on public records. Does he have another relative that he could call? I'm sure someone in the family has that information.

If not, then I would put Ontario. I honestly don't think that you will get in trouble for something like that - just say that is what his parents told you. Or - ask someone over at the courthouse what they would do in this situation. I wouldn't think it would be that big of a deal...

  4. Kat trusts the fiance and does not force him to call his estranged parents anymore.

  5. Hi.  If he is estranged from his family....then just tell him to write down Ontario.  There is no one that is going to make you PROVE that he is 100% positive.  It's just one of those formalities.

  6. Well, his mother and father aren't the only people that know.  Their brothers and sisters, as well as their parents (his aunts, uncles and grandparents) also know.

You surely are not the first people to run into this problem.  Seeing as none of us know where you are, so we cannot speak to the laws in your state or province, I would go right on down to the courthouse or city hall where they issue the permits and ASK THE EXPERTS.

  7. Perhaps you could call the Ontario city hall and get some info out the them. Tell them who you want to look up and why. I hope it works out.

  8. He can write down Ontario or unknown.  Primarily, they just want to know what country they were born in.
