I am an Indian citizen working abroad and would like to get married to a foreigner. I have read in detail the special marriage act, foreign marriage act and hindu marriage act. Special marraige act is ruled out as I can't stay in India for two months. I would like to understand if it is possible to get marriage registered in India under Hindu marriage act, if we do it at Arya Samaj Mandir. How long will it take and what documents are needed for registration? Please suggest.

  1. I think it is fast at Arya Samaj.

As I know, a week is enough.

You have to produce Age proof, residential proof and other documents required by Arya Samaj.

  2. Yes you can marry according to Hindu form of marriage in Arya Samaj Mandir provided you both are Hindu by religion. If this foreigner lady is not belonging to Hindu Religion as per the definition of the Hindu provided in the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 then first she has to be converted to Hindu religion by Shudikaran (purification) Ceremonies which too takes place in Arya Samaj Mandir. After the Hindu form of marriage a marriage certificate is issued by the Arya Samaj Mandir which shall be required for registration of the Hindu Marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 along with proof of age of both, residence proof, conversion certificate (in case of conversion, a certificate one gets from Arya Samaj Mandir), two to three witnesses with identity proof, passport photographs etc for the purpose of this process. The Registrar of Marriages/Tehsildar/SDM of the District where you got married or/& reside shall register this marriage & issue a Valid Marriage Certificate which you will be requiring for jobs with regard to the passport amendments or immigration etc. This wholesome process take two to three maximum, provided a lawyer is engaged who can arrange the whole processes on your behalf at all levels.
