Question:

Marriage - can we be married by someone in a place of our choice?

We want to get married on a beach, just us and our close family. Is it possible to do this? We are not religious so it would be a civil ceremony. Is there anyone that would come to marry us instead of us going to a register office?

thanks x

  1. it has to be somewhere licenced for the registrar to come out to you! You can get married at a registry office and then have a " joining ceremony" at the beach!

  2. absolutely. Look online ....for example. get on google...I LOVE GOOGLE>>>LOL...type in either wedding ceremony officiate or minister officiate and a normal price is around $1-300 depending on who you get. They will schedule a time to meet you and that's all there is. You have to obtain a marriage license int eh state in which you are going to marry but that's cheap. then you get the officiate to marry you at a location which will be free. There are numerous areas that are free locations to marry at. beautiful locations...

  3. the person you choose will have to become ordained to perform the ceremony but you can do that online for like $30...

  4. You can get married where you like, when you get someone to officiate.

  5. yeah it is possible

  6. Unfortunately it is not possible to get married everywhere.  The place you choose has to be licenced to hold ceremonies there and a registrar has to be able to officiate the wedding. A condition of the license is that there has to be several wedding there a year, which is why Prince Charles and Camilla had to get married in Windsor registry office and not Windsor castle as they wanted.

There should be a list available form your local registry office with names of places you can legally get married.

Alternatively, get married in a registry office and then hold a private ceremony where ever you want.  A colleague of mine got married at a registry office and then had a blessing and picnic in the countryside, with all his friends and with their own vows, even their children read vows to their parents.

  7. The last wedding i presided over (I'm the minister) was on the beach in California.  It was nice and the prettiest beach i have ever seen.

  8. can you? It's your day! You can get married naked in a hot tub filled with rose petals if you want. All it takes is a notary to sign your license on the day you want to "be married"

  9. The place might need a wedding licence and you would need to contact the resistry office to ger a registrar to perform the ceremony

  10. Yes providing you can get a registrar to marry you in the place of your choice. You need to check with the Registrars Office in the area where you wish the ceremony to take place.

  11. i'm afraid not - the uk has much stricter rules on marriage, so the following apply:

    - you can't get married, and the venue you choose must have a licnse (only permanent buildings get these, so you can't get round it with a marquee either)

    - you have to get married by a registrar, and unlike america you can't get a license online!

your best option might be to get married in a registry office, then have the ceremony you want afterwards, on the beach with your family and anything you want to say - then you can do what you like :D
