Is there any way to view marriage certificates from the states of New York, Michigan, or Ohio? The time period would be the late 1800s

  1. None of the states actually issued individual certificates in the 1800s. That didn't come until the early 1900s. What they did do is keep the marriages in a log book. In Michigan and Ohio, you can't find the originals online but there are indices available. Jack and Marianne Dibean have indexed all of the marriages in Michigan and the records for each county are on their respective MIGenWeb sites. Ohio is hit and miss, but you can check the OHGenWeb sites to see which counties make them available. NY has most of theirs online through Ancestry.com, Rootsweb/NY GenWeb and the NY State Archives.
