So what is the significance of marrying a Non-US citizen if they still have to take a citizenship test?

I am not taking about those who marry for love.

  1. All non-US citizens have to take the test, its simply part of the procedure. If you're thinking about getting married for this purpose, be aware of the process and possible consequences. Don't expect to be instantly handed a citizenship once you marry a citizen or, even more so, a non-US citizen. You need to wait a few years for this to happen.

  2. Marriage is just a method of many to have convenience in getting a ctizenship but it does not really help if there are disqualifications.

  3. There is no significance.  Getting married does not even give the foreign spouse permission to live in the United States.  Americans who find the process too onerous should stick to marrying an American.

  4. You cannot marry into citizenship, but you can marry into legal status (green card).  The immigrant becomes eligible for citizenship years later.

The significance of marrying an illegal alien is, in many cases, love.  Love, including my own, does not know political boundaries.  You may be referring to the fact that marriage does not automatically make an immigrant legal.  There is paperwork to be filed, and some immigrants are not eligible for a visa because they were here illegally.  This requires a lengthly process, and some immigrants are denied a visa even though they are married to a US citizen.

  5. Marriage is one avenue in to the U.S. - a spousal visa can help the non citizen gain conditional residency in the US.  The marrige must be proved valid (don't try to scam) and then permanent legal residency is bestowed.  Only after five years of permanent legal residency is one allowed to begin the process for naturalization (citizenship).   It is a very long, very difficult process - and each person is required to gain citizenship on their own merits.

    There are no shortcuts here.

  6. That's because they are NOT US Citizen. That they have to naturalized through process.

In your opinion, do you think that everybody just comes and marries US Citizen should be given US Citizenship?
