  1. Yes

  2. yeah

  3. I don't know if it is still on the books or not (I'm not a lawyer) BUT for devout church goers in the Anglican church you used to be able to publish the bans in the church news letter it had to be published for something like 3 or 4 Sundays in a row and then the minister would record the bans in the church's registry.  HOWEVER I believe that this practice has fallen out of favour in modern times and is no longer practiced.

  4. In Ontraio you can publish the banns for three consecutive weeks as an alternative to getting a marriage license.   In Québec, equivalent formalities are required for all marriages, although the statutes do not use the word "banns". There is no requirement for a government-issued license in Quebec, but a written notice must be posted at the place of the wedding for 20 days beforehand, and the officiant verifies the eligibility of the intended spouses.  I hope this helps.

  5. Each province and territory does.

However, we got married in the Ukrainian Catholic church and didn't need a license. They use instead the publishing of banns, which announce for three weeks that the marriage will be taking place, in the church bulletin.
