I am a US Citizen and I want to marry my fiance in Mexico (he is illegal) he has a passport but has not been stamped, and I was told that it would be easier for him to get a green card that way but others suggest that we should marry here in the USA. I'm just not sure what would be easier for both of us.

  1. Your marriage in Mexico has nothing to do with being Married in the USA...Marry in the USA and do the process correctly.  But do not comfuse the two.  And dont marry for a card...sad reason

  2. since he's an illegal, you cannot adjust his status here in the US. he can be deported and be banned from the country for 10 yrs. it will be better if you guys get married in Mexico and then you can petition him for a spousal visa

  3. Yes,

Deport illegals, and keep the dream alive.

  4. Try not breaking the law. Go back to Mexico and marry there then start the immigration process.

  5. I asked the same question to my immigration lawyer and she said it was better to get married here since he is already here illegally, and believe it or not the US and Mexico more than likely know that he is here illegally.. however he hill have to go back to Mexico for about 1-2 years and you will have to prove to immigration that you 2 cannot live your lives in Mexico. If they deny what you are saying he may be banned for 10 years.

  6. Okay, so you want to get married.  That's established.  Now, the question is about getting married in the U.S. or in Mexico.  In the U.S., you have to apply for a marriage license before getting married.  I don't know if that procedure can cause any problems for you.

I don't know if you can just hop on down Mexico way and get hitched.  I wouldn't think so.  You'd have to live there for a certain amount of time, wouldn't you?  Would they also have some kind of licensing for marriage?  And if it was just a quickie ceremony, it's a good bet that it wouldn't be legally recognized back in the U.S.
