  1. We got married in Cyprus back in 99 and it was brilliant, book it all through your tour operator and they do everything for you. You will have the best time ever, and you can even be sure the sun will shine.

  2. I got married abroad. You should check with the embassy of where you want to marry to see if there are any residency rules, local proceedures and to find out what paperwork you need.

You will definately need a Certificate of no impediment (CNI) to show the authorities of Cyprus that you are free to marry. You get this by giving notice of your forthcoming marriage (you'll need to have a date fixed to give notice) at your local registry office. If no one objects, after three weeks you are issued with the CNI. You will need to get it officially translated, I did this at the British consulate, it cost about £40. Don't apply for the CNI too early, most countries want the it to have been issued in the last three months.

You then have to find somewhere in your country of choice who will be willing to marry you. I didn't have a ceremony, too much extra fuss and bother on top of everything else. I just went to the local city hall to register the marriage. Most countries only recognize civil marriages, the religious part being an optional extra. So if you want a religious ceremoney you'll have to do the local legal paperwork first.
