  1. Since you live in Texas, your divorce will be handled there.  Where you were married is irrelevant.  Call your county court and ask what you need to do.  If it's a "no-fault" state, you just complete some paperwork and you can work with a paralegal or mediator to handle any disputes.

  2. The fact that you married in Las Vegas has nothing at all to do with where you file for divorce.  Is your soon-to-be-ex also living in Texas?  If so, then that's where you file for divorce.  If your spouse is in another state, is in the military, or can't be located, there will be additional steps required of you that only a lawyer can help you with.

Definitely call around and set up a consultation with a family law attorney.  Many attorneys will do an initial consultation for free, while occasionally you will run into an attorney who charges $25 or $50 for a consultation.  The important thing is that you find an attorney you will be comfortable working with through an emotionally trying experience that will drag on for a few months to a year.

  3. Yep- it doesn't matter where you got married.  Just where you are now.

  4. You file whereever you are a resident, not where you married unless you married in certain countries.

  5. Call the Law Firm:  Dewey, s***w, & Howe!

They are in the Yellow Pages!

  6. Contact a local family law firm and get a free consultation. Most good lawyers will give a free consultation and can advise you on how to go about your divorce based on the information you can give. Either ask a friend or family member who is divorced who they used or simple look it up in the local phone book.

    Good luck!
