Married in Mexico & provided birth certificates for children... ?

We were recently married in Mexico and were required to provide certified copies of birth certificates for our two children who accompanied us as well, which were kept along with the other documents. Was this a bona fide requirement, or can those birth certificates potentially be used to provide false identitites?

  1. I don't know about requiring birth certificates for this particular situation, but in Mexico, they are crazy about birth certificates...they are the be-all and end-all form of I.D.  I am an American living in Mexico and have had to provide by birth certificate for several different situations.  It is common here.  I don't think you have anything to worry about.  Americans are asked for their birth certificates when they sign up for health ins., or register at city hall as a resident of the city, etc.
